Summer 2011 Celebrity Hair

Seeing that summer is the hottest season for celebrity parties, events and award shows, it's no surprise that so much is put into drastic hair colour and hair cut changes. Everything from cute bobs, to bouncy wavesthe summer keeps us guessing what celebrities is going to rock what styles next. So let's take a look at some of the hairstyles that have been spotted around town this summer!

This girl next door always looks so effortless in her style. From the red carpet to the streets Gabrielle Union manages to radiate and exude that Hollywood confidence.

Christina Aguilera was once known for her wild hairstyles and outfits. But this young woman has cleaned up her act and is now known for her timeless hairstyles and red carpet appearances. Now rocking a classic bob, Christina could do no harm in my eyes.
Someone that has mastered the art of wearing short hair is definitely Emma Watson. She has reminded us that with short hair cuts, like her pixie cut, that the options are still endless!

Rosie Huntington is fairly new to the red carpet season, but has already mastered that Hollywood glam look. With her impeccable waves pushed to one side it really gives her that old Hollywood feeling.

Another celebrity that makes short hair seem so effortless is Halle Berry. Her signature pixie has been duplicated so many times it would be impossible to keep track. A perfect haircut for the summer that will have your features standing out.

The most drastic change of them all...from long dark brown locks to a short blonde do. Katherine McPhee sure knows how to change it up. Known for her Hollywood waves Katherine has decided to see if blondes really do have more fun!

With hypnotising eyes like Kate Bosworth, its no need to doing anything too outrageous with your hair. With the simplicity of her bob she still has a range of different styles that she is able to switch it up, for any event!

Long Hairstyles Summer 2011

With summer 2011 here long hairstyles are definitely the most popular this season. Everyone from Rihanna to Natalie Portman have taken the time to grow out the short do’s and opt for long tresses. From Curly like Beyonce or sleek and straight like Jennifer Aniston this summer is about options. We see celebrities like Katy Perry with party coloured streaks in her hair or celebrities like Nicki Minaj rocking full coloured wigs. With options like this it’s no surprise women all over are either growing out their hair or buying some for that extra length!

While Beyonce is known for switching up her hairstyles quite often this new curly do seems to be here to stay for the summer! Sticking to her signature blonde hair colour this hairstyle will definitely have the girls around the world following her lead.

Our modern day Hollywood starlet Blake Lively has brought that old Hollywood glam back to the red carpet. With her signature effortless waves full of volume she is the definition of great blow dryer! This look may need a hairdresser to achieve but will well worth it once you see the results.

Cassie has everyone wanting to shave one side of their heads. While this look is not for everyone Cassie has managed to show us how to wear this style from the red carpet to everyday relax hairstyle. So if you’re feeling daring try this style and you’ll be sure to have everyone copying your look or at least wishing they could:

The braid has officially been replaced by its sister the fishtail. Seen on everyone this summer has brought on another trend that I’m sure we’ll be seeing season after season!

Age has only made Gwen Stefani even more radiant than ever, bringing sophistication and confidence to her look. She’s pictured here in an elegant hairstyle that lets her face glow. Perfect for summer events and outings so that you don’t have to worry about your hair sweating onto your face.

Since pushing the limits seems to be the rule to live by this summer, singer Katy Perry decided to play with some fun colors in her hair. As most people tend to stick to natural shades she has decided to add some personality to her hair with pinks, blues and purples. If you’re not ready to make the permanent change have fun with clip on colored hair extensions. Everyday can be a new colour with a new attitude!

Keeping your hair this straight in the summer may not be easy if your hair isn’t naturally straight. But with all the right tools it is a look that can be achieved for those not so humid days. As seen on Rihanna with a side part and a bold hair colour the look is a definite winner.

Stars like Megan Fox have mastered this beach look. Simple, sexy and tousled, this hairstyle can take you from day to night.

Black Hairstyles for Summer 2011

With summer being one of the most fashionable seasons around, it's no surprise that we are tempted to change our hair a lil' more frequently. From short fades to long hair extensions the options are endless. As black women we have a lil' more flexibility with adding lengths and textures to our hair with extensions. So go ahead take the risk if you've always dreamt of having curls like Beyonce or length like Ciara or colour like Rihanna this summer is the time!

If you’re looking for a style that requires minimal hair care but maximum gutsy woman facture, this is the style for you. Ms Amber Rose has made it so that woman all over can feel liberated by their hair. Go ahead take the plunge and add a lil colour too!

I love the texture in Queen B's hair that she has been spotted in lately. A great look for hot summer days since it doesn't involve any heat products. Just wake up and go. Also great for those of you that enjoy water sports in the summer.

Pixie cuts have always been Monica's thing, and let's just say she's mastered this look. This is a great cut for the summer weather and for those that aren't ready to take the full plunge a la Amber Rose.

Keri Hilson has always kept it moving with her hair. One day she's rocking an asymmetrical cut and the next gentle waves. She keeps this look edgy by having a hair colour that screams summer fun!

Normally Nicki Minaj is all about colour, but recently she's been spotted around town rocking her signature black bob. This style is such a classic hairdo and easy to maintain it would definitely be a style I would recommend to those of you that need some simplicity and edge all in one.

Known for her long dark hairstyles, Ciara has decided to switch it up by adding warm colour all over her hair. When experimenting with length like Ciara you'll need to be ready for the maintenance that comes along with it. A great flat iron would be very necessary with a style like this.

2011 Hairstyles Movement

In 2011 hairstyles are all about movement. That may sound like an odd theme as people generally want their hair to stay in place, however this is about a look and is descriptive of the overall feel of 2011 hairstyles. Styles are seen to be moving due to clever hair cutting and styling techniques, for example slashed layers, brushed in various directions, give the illusion of very free moving hair, even if it is held in place with a spray. Lines are dynamic, from arc shaped fringes, to intricate braids, giving extra dimensions to hairstyles and adding interesting twists.

The other noticable trend for 2011 hairstyles, is a candy floss texture. This is new, it is a matt look, and very soft and feminine. It has been seen on many catwalks, with models wearing an extreme version of this style, of course for everyday hairstyles, the look can be toned down, and a little back combing of the top layer of hair, along with a spray of sea salt or wax hairspray, for a matt finish, holds the hair in place.

Center partings are back in fashion, looking best on round and oval shaped faces, a center parting gives a nice symmetry to hairstyles and of course is easy to maintain. With blunt, thick, long bangs / fringes popular in 2011, a center parting is a way to wear the hair on days that you maybe do not have time to style the thick, blunt fringed look. So it gives the option to be versatile with your bangs.

The latest look for bangs (or fringes), as previously mentioned, is a blunt, full look. Rather than being cut straight across, they are being cut in arc shapes, which adds that new look. They are long and so need to be cut regularly, as just hovering above the eyes, too long will be annoying, so you may need to get some hair cutting scissors, to keep your blunt bangs in tip top condition, without breaking the bank.

2011 hairstyles are seen to contain lots of interesting new braiding techniques. Adding braids to hairstyles makes them look more interesting and adds a splash of detail that can give that extra swag to an otherwise common look. Fishtail plaiting is nice, but also basket weaves and really any kind of braid you can imagine. Incorporating a braid into your hair, really looks great and updates any style. You can also buy pre braided hair extensions, that can be clipped in and wound around the head.

Wet looks are fashionable for short cropped hairstyles in 2011, but can also be worn on longer hair, at the tips, giving a just out the shower look, fresh and clean! The other look is big hair, voluminous, but not harsh. Voluminous hair should be softened by using gentle teasing with a comb and sea salt spray. Long hairstyles in 2011 can also be lush, that is, long full and in excellent condition, with perfectly formed waves. If your hair does not have that much volume, hair extensions can be clipped in and in recent years have become more widely available and not expensive.

2011 hairstyles can be any color, but most popular are bright shades of blonde and red, as well as deep multi tonal dark shades for brunettes. Panels of hair color that give the illusion of shine and hairstyles that have different shades in the tips or roots are also popular. When choosing several shades for your hair, keep them within a few shades of the base color, for a modern look.

So with movement and wispy textures being the keys to 2011 hairstyles, the new year is a good time to assess your look and go for a new one. Search for some pictures of 2011 hairstyles to find something you like and then consult your local hair stylist, who will be well informed on how to achieve the latest 2011 hairstyle looks.
